Billing Policy

Data Billing

We utilize a pooled, "pay-as-you-go" billing system, which we call "Flex Billing". Customers only pay for the amount of data actually used, and data is pooled across all cameras on the billing account. The total monthly bill is comprised of connection fee, data fee, SMS fee, and optional add-ons, such as camera insurance.

Connection Fee

The customer may turn each camera's cellular connection "On" or "Off" in the Barn Owl app. This can be changed at any time, and there is no change fee. The Connection Fee is determined by how long each camera is "On" throughout the month.

"On" = $8 per camera per month
The fee is prorated down to the second, so if a camera is "On" for exactly half of the month, the fee will be $4. This fee covers the cost of SIM activation, cellular network access, and photo storage. ​

"Off" = $0
Please be aware that we pay the cellular carriers a monthly fee for each SIM card, even if the SIM is not used that month. As a result, we reserve the right to change this fee in the future, depending on how much the cellular carriers charge us.

Data Pricing

Data is pooled across all cameras on an account. The cost per image decreases as data use increases.

SMS Pricing

$0.03 per SMS
SMS messages are used in the following situations:

  • Sending a command to the camera to change settings ("Apply Settings")
  • Sending a command to the camera to take a photo ("Command Image")
  • Text alerts (note, each phone number that receives an alert is a separate SMS message)
  • If you do not wish to pay for alerts, email alerts are free. You can also send emails to your phone as a text message for free using the Barn Owl App.

Camera Insurance

$11 per camera per month

Photo Storage

Unlimited photo storage is included with the connection fee. We reserve the right to change this in the future.
